Embark Profiles
« on: November 13, 2010, 05:50:03 pm »

is there any centralized dump of embark profiles .txt's out there? i'm terrible at making them, but can tweak things decently. basically, you know how quickfort has a place where a bunch of people have dumped their home-made CSVs? that, for embark profiles.

rambling aside, does exist?

ometimes people stick them in guides and maybe on the wiki but there's not really much point. You can set embark points in world gen so you can just take whatever you please and people talk about their starting dwarves in threads on here often enough that you can go with whatever setup you please.

i'm aware of this, but i like having a preset build that i can tweak. it's kinda strange, but i'm like that. it's kinda like drawing for me: a blank sheet of paper, i'll get nothing done. put three lines on it, and i can build and rebuild something.

ionno. like i said, it's kinda strange i suppose. i'm guessing, then, that there's no central place for people's .txt's?

There's no place for embark profiles that I am aware of. You might have some luck if you just ask around for what people bring. Though most people are unlikely to tell you exactly what their profile includes, they will tell you the major stuff they bring along in terms of food, tools, weaponry, armor, raw materials, animals, and skills. That'll at least get you started.

For the sake of giving you something to modify, here's the profile that I'm using on my current embark:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
3 dogs, 2 female one male, for eventual meat industry, enough food and drink to (probably) last until autumn, and enough ore and coal to make 7 bismuth bronze tools, like an axe and several picks. Otherwise, a small supply of wood for early furniture, leather for some bags and armor, and a few cloth and thread for medical use if needed.

I probably should've brought one more bit. coal, as I miscounted the amount I needed. I could've gotten away with it if I wasn't on a treeless tundra/mountain map. For the longer term, I intend to focus mainly on leather and bone crafts for trade goods, so that's why I've brought the proficient leatherworker and bonecarver. I didn't bring pig tail or dimple cup seeds, as I hadn't intended on setting up a cloth industry for quite some time after embark at which point I'll have been able to buy them.
