Recruit companions from a previous fort?
« on: November 12, 2010, 01:42:42 pm »

Hello,

When you abandon a fortress do your dwarves always go crazy/wander away forever or just vanish?

I figure it would be really awesome to train up a military, equip them with cotton candy, abandon the fort (with an extra set of cotton candy) so that your demi-god dwarf can show up, get said equipment and recruit from your former military.

...
...
But that isn't exactly possible if they all go nuts is it?

Some dwarves usually stay at the fortress site, but it is uncertain which ones will, and if they do so.
You may try, though, as I remembered recruiting like, 3 dwarves from my old fort back in the days of 31.12

Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.

Cotton Candy?
Whatever.
Why not special weapons? It's much better.

Yes, sometimes your dwarves stick around. supposedly they might also go back to the mountainhomes. I remember reading a world history bit of one of my previous dwarves who became a fishery worker in the mountainhomes. I only remember it because I generally don't have a fishing industry, and the dwarf in question was a brewer. It was awhile ago, but I don't see why it would have changed.
So after abandonment, just check your legends to be sure. If there was no new events in the dwarf's life, he is probably still hanging around on the site.

Cotton Candy?

Spoiler:  Really a spoiler (click to show/hide)

I will never understand why something that is listed in the stocks screen even if you haven't found any yet is always put behind spoilers.

A lot of the other stuff I understand.  But this never fails to baffle me.

I guess it still depends on the dwarves personalities & such....I remember getting an adventurous one to join me even when he was just a former civilian that is now free from the shackles of dorfy workdom.

So I guess you better train up some warrior dwarves with "adventurous" personal traits to increase recruitment possibility.

Cotton candy for references to special materials is just stupid.
