How does one input /* to view other pages? I assume it's some button combination?

It's the slash and asterisk keys, conveniently placed atop the numpad. / to page up, and * to page down.

Brilliant, thanks. Secondary question though, why can't my character wear the leather equipment I've picked up? All I see is the quivers I snatched. I'm an elf, they're human?

Elves are smaller than humans.  You can't wear things labeled 'large' or 'small'.
