Glass Dome Megaproject
« on: November 28, 2010, 07:16:40 am »

So I tried to do this in the "What's going on in your fort" topic. Twice.
Sadly, it seems that people only look into this topic when they want to show their own achievements.
So I'll try it here now.

I have a megaproject green glass dome, but no working visualizers at all. Could someone please make some nice visualizer pictures of my dome?

Save is here: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=3490

Thanks for any pictures.

I don't like to open files, BUT, I am also in a glass dome megaproject, are you using glass blocks or glass windows? I build the structure for the windows out of glass blocks, because I'm into extra work.

Extra points if you ring every layer around the dome with glass statues to act as gargoyles.

I used glass blocks and no windows, because I want my dome to last: Windows are still buildings, and get scattered at reclaim. My dome is underwater.
Also, my dome is ramped, and built in such a way that statues wouldn't look nice on the dome.

Furthermore, the savefile is on DFFD, and I really don't see why I should upload anything else than the dome save or why DFFD shouldn't be trustworthy.

Come on everyone else, I am in the same situation as a blind dwarf: I can stumble to a Glassmaker's workshop to make a glass artifact studded with glass, and I can't even have a look at it. Have pity with me and post some pictures!  :'(

Sadly, Stonesense isn't 31.18 compatible yet, so here's a (crappy) Overseer shot of the outside.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I tried getting a shot of the inside... but it's a white-n-gray mess, lots of floor and stairs.

Props, by the way, for the nicely made dome.

Just cause I'm such a nice guy, here. Best shot I could get of it (you've got it underground and all weirdly placed)

And your entire embark on the surface, for giggles.

Underwater dome city. Bonus points if you include mermaid farms.

Windows are still buildings, and get scattered at reclaim. My dome is underwater.

Wait, what? I've never seen buildings deconstruct on reclaim...

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

I flooded my dome from the outside, abandoned, and went visiting as an adventurer. The bottom 6 z-levels of my dome were flooded inside, so I could not get in. This was because of some deconstructed floodgates that were spilling ocean into my farm zone. My whole workshop area was gone too. I didn't reclaim, I went adventuring. Perhaps revisit behaviour is different there.

That sounds like it could be an entirely different issue - ocean embarks tend to flood on abandon whether they are connected to the ocean or not.

Okay, but that still doesn't explain the missing workshops.
