I just recently viewed this article
http://www.zeropaid.com/news/93326/new-zealands-three-strikes-law-was-pushed-bought-and-paid-for-by-the-us-wikileaks/

A quick summary:
The article discusses a number of released diplomatic cables that appear to show high level US diplomatic pressure on the New Zealand govt to implement a set of copyright laws, (a set of laws that were recently pushed through government under emergency powers granted to deal with teh christchurch earthquake) and even a budget listing for some sort of enforcement agency.

If the links the article hints at are true then as a New Zealander I can admit that this does the reputation of United States no good for both me personally and the general public as a whole. I find the idea that something like this could happen quite repulsive. Now I will not assume that this is a given but the article does have some strong evidence to some level of US involvement. Right now I have three questions:

To United States Citizens, how do you feel about your government carrying out such diplomatic pressures on behalf of the major industry players and do you feel that such actions are justified in any sense?

To non US forumgoers, do you fear such influences in your own country and do you think that such an issue is a problem in your country?

I know that a topic like this may attract a lot of flames, so please, remember that most bay12 citizens in the United States are not directly responsible for these alleged actions.

That's surprising considering the fact that New Zealand pulled out of that triple alliance thing they had going on. I thought their relationship with the U.S. was lukewarm, but then I don't know much about international politics.

If it's true, then yes I am worried.

I wonder why they're so interested in doing this. I mean, are we a prime exporter to the USA? Do they really need our sheep and picturesque scenery that badly?

It's probably just a control thing. They know some pirates use new zealand hosts and such to get around copyright laws.

This is concerning me greatly. Also, I think my respect for America just fell under rock bottom.

No offense to Americans

Congress would never mandate strip searches for anyone in a record shop to prevent theft (at least I hope not), and if they would just apply the same standard to the internet everything would be fine. Of course, Congress has had a 15% approval rating for the past thirty years, so I guess it's to be expected that they're a bunch of closet autocratic morons.

Federal Government, y u no listen to the people?

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.
