Dissapearring traders
« on: June 06, 2008, 01:15:00 am »

I was playing in fall of the second year, when the dwarves trading caravan came.
I promptly ordered several dozen trinkets and other items to my trading depot. The dwarfs soon set up (i even watched them enter the trading post.) I came out of the trading screen to be notifed that one of my dwarves is acting strangely.  he quickly took over my jeweler (I also was under the impression that I didnt' have any jewels to use.) I watched all of my dwarves bring the items to the trade depot,  and when i went to trade, I was informed that there were no merchants present. I checked, and there was no message of the Caravan leaving, they were just gone.  I did, however, get a message from their liaison a few minutes later, saying that we need to talk about the deal but I was unable to trade.

I was able to trade with everybody else, except for this trade group.

Were there any merchant units in the 'u' screen?  Any wild animals that might have chased them off?

Anybody else have observations on this?  I don't have a way to address it at this point.

I checked. No merchant units, and no other creatures other than the usual raccons, deer, ect. They were physically inside of my base when it happened.

The only think i can think of is that the processes for giving a dwarf his fey mood and the processes dealign with the merchant might have the same variable or string name, so they fey mood might have placed a variable in the same location as a variable dealing with the merchants, and when that variable got wiped *Poof* traders dissapeared.

I would suggest writing come code that, temporarily, initiates the "fey mood" code in order to see if this is a one time thing or not.

The one time I had traders evaporate without actually leaving was related to the bug with having two trade depots, where the wagons went to one depot and the pack animals to the other.  I don't think it's related though since the traders were present for a while (though I couldn't trade with either group).. they simply disappeared when they attempted to leave though (leaving their goods behind too).

No, this isn't the case. I only had one trade Depot.

However, i now have a new bug. I amde the trading depot out of bauxite, and a peasant wandered over to trade. However, There are no prices ANYWHERE on the trading screen. WHen i entered the screen, The Peasant immedietly became a "trader"  I Do have the save game now, i just need a place to send it, as well as instructions on how to do so.

Please keep in mind that I'm using mike Mayday's Tileset.
