Drowning in six inches of water
« on: January 26, 2008, 08:04:00 pm »

To deal with my illegal immigrant problem, I set up a barracks on a beautiful promontory over looking a murky pond and I draft all immigrants into the army.  The immigrants leave for better places within a couple of months.

It doesn't seem like this should work.  Shouldn't dwarves at least have a certain probability of surviving a fall at the edge of a pond?

I think they can if they have some swimming skill. But at dabbling they have the swimming skill of an office copier. And it seemes no dwarf, human, or elf in the entire world at the year 1049 has any swimming skill whatsoever.

They must be trained.

Murky pools aren't water, though! They're 0 inches of water! A little mud!

I floated the idea of quicksand moats here: http://www.bay12games.com/cgi-local/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=6&t=002413

a) People should use the search function more. >:C
b) The search function oughtta have a way to search all forums at the same time, given the overlap in topics many have. I went through Suggestions, Modding, Dwarf Mode, and General Discussion before I found the thread where I said that right here in the Bug Reports forum.

a) Lol
b) I must have missed that mention in that thread.  Still we should start a thread in Suggestions.

Holy carp! Where did that come from!? I'd swear it wasn't there two months ago.

It wasn't there.  I found a somewhat obscure setting in the forum configuration that makes it appear.  It warned me against doing it, but it doesn't seem to be killing my bandwidth so far.
