Journal of Graebeard the Twitchy

Entry 1

We have arrived in our new home.  This place is not, um, exactly what we expected.  We spent much of the last few days ducking off the road as beak dogs hunted through the forest and harpies screeched overhead.  Well, at least we made it here.

Kind of.  Where are the ones who came before us?  I was told we were to join another 7 that had made it, but the only trace we've found of dwarves is one shattered piece of smoothed wood that may be an axe handle...

In this place our goal is clear: dig to safety and quick.

Entry 2

Well, we can dig to safety, but there's not much else we can dig to.  There's water seeping out of everything in this godforsaken place.  Everything, that is, except for the dried up murky ponds that refuse to hold water when it rains.  It must just be seeping into this gods-forsaken aquifer.

In other news, we have a modicum of safety now.  We've fashioned the evil trees that live here, heavy and discolored from the sin they bear, into a wall that surrounds the entrance to our hole in the dirt.

Entry 3

Success!  The miners have found a dry area through which we can reach the precious stone below our feet.  The area is limited and these aquifers seem to reach down to 11 floors below ground.  I've asked the miners to be careful while they excavate, but my dreams are filled with images of a careless fool breaching the aquifer above and drowning our hopes.

Entry 4

Herds of beak dogs continue to pass by the entrance to our fort, eyeing the doors that seal them out as though they know something more than they let on.  We must create a more substantial barrier, but for that we must wait for these abominations to pass.

Somehow, others have heard about our outpost and decided to join us.  These foolish immigrants may be daft, but they are also useful.  We number 18 now and sport a fledgling militia of 4 stalwart dwarfs.

Entry 5

The year has come and gone and we remain alive.  Our toehold in this land is tenuous, but for now we are secure.

But this land is not done with us.  No.  The evil, like water from these damned aquifers, seeps out of every stone, every slope, and every tree.  I hope the barriers of our souls can keep this effluence at bay and that we may remain righteous in the eyes of Armok.

I fear that we may not...

And with that my turn is done.  I took way longer than I like, sorry to everyone who's waiting.

Here is the save and the map with POIs.

Whoever is next should be very very careful about digging.  There's about 9 levels of aquifer just waiting to flood the fort.

It's probably made from baby bone, with a handle of baby leather. Probably uses the leg bones wound together for the handle, the pelvis for the handle/pick joint, and the pick is the spine.

But that's all in theory, of course. Not like I've made a pick out of my own 5 month old baby before.

I would like to be skipped, yes. But I am interested in taking later turns.

Oh the irony. I just switched places in another succession game, so I would have time to do a third succession game. As such, may I be dropped back a few turns?
