What's better (weapon question)?
« on: November 03, 2010, 02:35:16 pm »

Bit of a random question but:

What's better? A exceptionally crafted bronze long sword, or a normal iron short sword?

In vanilla df bronze is better than iron.  Atleast in 2010.

If your armor was 50% as good as two other civs and 30% as good as a third, do you really think you'd do well in war? That'd be like trying to engage a rocket-launcher mounted Humvee with a pistol riding a tricycle.

Is it better than the toehr one even though the other is exceptional and a longsword?

I'll go out on a limb and say that the exceptional bronze one is probably better.

For sure in the earlier DF2010 releases (before the material changes in 0.31.12), bronze was universally better than plain iron, so it would be no contest.  In the more recent releases, iron and bronze have a much more complex set of rules involving which one's better against what.  In my mind, the exceptional quality would tip the balance in favor of the bronze sword in most, if not all, cases.  But I'm not 100% sure of this.

Oh... and one of 'em's a long sword and the other's a short sword?  Hah.  I have no idea what difference that makes exactly, but you'd expect the longer one to be better, yes?  So... bronze, right?

The longsword would also be heavier so it would have more power in the swing.
