Lashers?
« on: October 28, 2010, 09:35:02 pm »

I've seen this mentioned a few times, had my first encounter with them today. Can someone explain why they kill things so fast?

Think of silver war hammers on the end of a long chain, with an extremely thin hammer head.

That's a whip.

Give cats natural metallic armor and throw them in your danger room.  Also allow their mouth and tail to grasp (shield in mouth, weapon in tail xD)  Have a cat based military.  You know, do the same with all tame animals xD send in the cats as shock troops to disrupt the archers

They have a 5x velocity multiplier if I remember correctly. They do blunt damage, which ignores armor.

Only whips own so hard though. Scourges do piercing damage.

Imagine a piece of metal flying through the air.  Now imagine it's accelerated to literal breakneck (and beyond) speed.  now imagine that same piece of metal having a small surface area of contact but a really high density.

now imagine it hitting you in the face.

So basically what you're saying is that whips are more or less the equivalent of a bullet attached to a rubber band?

I get what you're saying... but it still shouldn't be that lethal. Except that the game physics must ignore the tiny mass the whip has in relation to say a mace.

Their tiny super sonic war hammers, a whip in unskilled hands can easily bring a Bronze Colossus to it's knees then remove them.

Stenbein, I believe a whip has roughly the same weight, It's just that in the game believes the whip to be rigid.

If those bullets were made of slade, you'd be correct

1. Kill lashers by other means or trap them and confiscate their weapons
2. Outfit dwarves with whips or put them in weapon traps
3. ? ? ?
4. Profit

Yes I'm aware that 3 makes 4 redundant since killing everything is it's own reward, but still.

Whips are pretty much mantis crabs on a string.

It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.
