I just encountered this odd occurence in my current fort. I happened to be checking my metal bar reserves in the stocks screen, when I noticed that two of the bars were coloured red. I thought this was strange, so I zoomed to them, and it took me to a square with slate pebbles. No items were shown as being located on that square.

A long time earlier in this fort, a human caravan had been ambushed by goblins in that area, so I'm guessing that the bars were leftover from that. Needless to say, it perplexed me that they would not be showing up when I examined the squares that they were supposedly on. So I ordered the items to be dumped from the stocks menu, and sure enough, two peasants ran out and grabbed the two bars and hauled them inside.

Do you have a save from back when the items were invisible?  I've seen a bug like this in magma-related situations, but nowhere else.

I have also seen this bug.  I've uploaded a save here at the DFFD.

Under Stocks->Drinks, at the bottom are two red drinks that aren't visible on the map when you [z]oom to them:

(Tuber beer [25])
(River spirits [25])

They were dropped by fleeing wagons during a goblin siege.

So their associated barrels are gone?  Do you have any idea what happened to the barrels?

The barrels are there too, at the bottom of the stocks:

(Tuber beer Barrel (Saguaro) <41>)
(River spirits Barrel (Chestnut) <49>)

They are also red and [z]oom to the same empty squares as the liquids.
