Freehold the Bastion of Liberty
« on: October 23, 2010, 06:51:09 pm »

Posted on 01/01/1062, from Eshimkegeth Berul Eren (Freehold the Bastion of Liberty)

To Kivish Ostarerith, First of Her Name, Queen of Dumat Ennol (The Roughness of Reputing) and Representative of that People, greetings.

For the past sixty nine years, I have been a member of the group which you represent. I have enjoyed the fruits of this relationship, and given back in what ways I have been required- namely, the paying of taxes, the obedience to law, and the participation in the military during times of war. During this time I have been careful to abide by the terms of our agreement, and I am duly grateful for the effort you put forth in upholding your end. I have enjoyed working together with you, and hope you feel the same.

However, I now feel that the time has come to dissolve our contract. Despite our long and fruitful relationship, I no longer feel that I have need of your services.

I will therefor no longer be paying taxes to your government, obeying the laws set forth by them, or serving in their military. I will also no longer expect the protection of your government from foes, or the rendering of any other such services as your government is responsible for. I will be retaining the property which I have acquired during our relationship, including land- this being a four (4) kab by four (4) kab of land on a small island south of the mainland. Three (3) kab of ocean territory is included within these borders, which I shall be retaining as well. My other possessions include one (1) dog, one (1) steel miner's pick, and the clothing which I wear on my back at the time of this writing. I shall also be bringing with me a wagon, pulled by one (1) one-humped camel, for aid on the journey.

Please accept my apologies for bothering you personally with this, as I am sure you are very busy, but it seems that there is no established way of giving notice of cancellation for this particular form of contract, as required under the laws of your state in Article XI, Section 7 of the legal code. Seeing as this contract was established under that law, it seems to me that those laws could be applied to the termination of this contract in a manner agreeable to all parties.

With my best wishes in your future endeavors,

Bim Bubnuscatten

Post if this story interests you, and I'll continue it. I'm curious to see if Bim has what it takes to live free of tyranny.

I'll be following this. I assume you'll get in a state of war with your mountainhomes (if that is even possible) and fight your own revolutionary war?  8)

Ooh, hermit fortress? I'm curious to see how he will deal with hordes of immigrants? Fellow seccessionists or spies of the queen?

Too bad you can't just fight the other dwarven civ, and call them the loyalists.
