Burrows and Alerts
« on: October 25, 2010, 08:02:31 am »

Somehow, I don't get it.
On the left side, I've got my alert levels, in the middle I've got my squad, on the right I've got my burrow.

On some alert levels, there is an "A" behind the burrow and/or the squad.

But somehow, as soon as I have the burrow defined and populated, the dwarfs stay inside, seemingly regardless of where the [CIV] is, or whether any or all levels hav an "A" behind the burrow. I have to remove them from the burrows population list or remove the whole burrow to make them chop wood again.
Well, at least thats what it looks like to me.

Call me stupid, but the wiki articles on scheduling and the military FAQ were no help at all to understand this issue. And, of course, the online help was not, too.

When you assign a dwarf to a burrow, that dwarf will be restricted to jobs or buildings within that burrow by default.  When you trigger an alert that assigns all civilians to a burrow, that overrides any assignment of individual dwarves to a burrow and assigns all non-military dwarves to whatever burrow is linked to that alert.  So if you want an alert that makes all civilians stay inside, you create an inside burrow, don't assign anyone to it, but link it to the civilians inside alert.  Then when you trigger an alert all non-military dwarves are automatically forced into that burrow.

Ahhhh! Thats the way it works. OK, now the events make sense to me. Thanks for the info - Somehow I could not extract this knowledge from the wiki, but you made it sound logical.
