In adventurer mode, I went to a human town and found myself here:

So now I don't know how to get away from the house, and I can't travel because it says I need to leave the site.

I'm completely new at this, so maybe there's some way I can leave that I just haven't seen yet, but it just seems that a door surrounded by walls would be a bug.

There'd normally be a ramp up and out of there, but it doesn't look like you got one...  I'll note it down.
