Transcription program
« on: October 24, 2010, 10:49:11 pm »

Hey yall,
I got a big project where I have to transcribe several hours of audio into text, and I was wondering if anyone knew of any free programs that could assist me.
I am not looking for miracles here, just something to speed up the task and that I could go back over and fix numerous errors inherent in the audio transcription program.
Do any free programs that do this exist?

Windows comes with a speech recognition program, which you can use to write stuff. You could play around with that if you don't have any alternatives.

By this do you mean something that can clean up the audio?

You might try audacity.

I do transcription for a college pretty often, and we just use Word + Express Scribe (which is free), for tape playback. It doesn't have much in the way of filters, noise control, or any of that. So I would try audacity.

Do you have an unemployed friend and a twenty dollar bill?

I should probably have my head checked, because I find myself in complete agreement with Nikov.

It sounds like he is the unemployed friend.

EDIT: And if you do have $20 then Slenderman will be after you.

I haven't been able to get any vomit this release. Not any I can pick up, at any rate.
