What's with my soldiers carrying barrels?
« on: October 20, 2010, 11:16:41 am »

At first I thought it was whenever I stationed them.  A certain number would come up carrying barrels, reach the station point, promptly turn around, and head back off wherever to put the barrel back. Then I just notice a certain small number of soldiers just walking around with barrels, usually going to their barracks with the thing, and then bringing it back to the storeroom or somewhere.

Short attention span - they went to get a drink, then immediately returned to duty without remembering to return the barrel to its stockpile. This was actually much more common back in 40d, where waterskins could only be used to contain water.

This also happens with bookkeepers and managers, though they tend not to drop the barrel until their task is actually complete.

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

I believe that waterskins can carry just water and you need flasks to carry booze.

This is not true. I am looking at a tiger leather waterskin right now with ale in it.

A flask is merely a waterskin made out of metal, as far as the game is concerned.

On the item is an image of Ngom Fishsin the goblin and a alligator in mountain goat leather. The alligator is striking down Ngom Fishsin. The artwork relates to the killing of the goblin Ngom Fishsin by a alligator in Crueljoy in The Mechanical Spine in the late autumn of 11 during Kaguskok, "The Crazy Assault".

You've got that backwards - a waterskin is a flask that's made of leather. Also, a vial is a flask that's made of glass.

What about the process plants (vial) job ? Does it work if you only have metal flasks and leather waterskins ?

Don't quote me on that.
Cacame channels aquifers into submission by staring at them. Cacame is so badass, kobolds give him their children to leave them alone. If Hidden Fun Stuff digs too far down, they hit Cacame. Cacame once took a Tantrum Spiral and impaled four enemies on it.

Nope - they only permit glass vials, for some reason.
