Seriously now, saying Adamantine itself is a spoiler is kind of like saying Bismuth is a spoiler.  Sure, the existence of the **weapon** is a spoiler, but every mention of the metal?  It gets old after a while, and most of us have just given up fighting against the **cotton candy trolls.**

As for the **weapon** and the structure, I chanced upon it once with a 2x2 embark. I think my **weapon** was a scimitar or something equally useless.  I was never able to make it down to claim it, as that particular embark group was just there to kill a Hydra, and I abandoned once that task was done.  (I was forcefully changing the Age, trying to get to the Age of Heroes or somesuch.  I only managed to effect one Age change (too many Titans, I suppose), so I abandoned the region and never looked back.)

I'd love to find another again sometime when embarking for a real fort.  I've probably started 50 forts since then and have yet to encounter another.  Just my luck, I suppose.  My last two forts didn't even have a single tile of Adamantine.....   Kinda disappointing.

What are the odds on finding them anyway? I only managed to ever 'find' one, and that was because the parameters and site had been told about. I can never find them in my own worlds :(

There's one in every "Regional Map" tile, which is 16x16 "Local Map" tiles.

with a 2x2 you've got a 1 in 64 chance, 3x3 is about 1 in 28.5, 4x4 = 1 in 16.

If you absolutely need to find one, Embark on the whole Local Map area, figure out about where it is, savescum(to save cavern mud, if you just reclaim you lose it all), then re-embark around where it was at.

Takes a bit, but it's a lot faster than going around making 2x2s over and over hoping for one or something.

I found one by chance with a 3x3 embark, that fortress ended in a lot of blood, gore and screams Fun, even before I was able to make it down there. So I started again, embarked in the exact same location and there was no longer a fortress down there, made me very sad indeed, had planned on setting up my fortress there once it was cleared out.

My first fort in v31 (I think it was .01 or .02) had one. Soooooo slow.

I haven't found one again.

It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.

I found one while my girlfriend was watching me. She found the depiction of zombie cats killing my fortresses' cats grimly hilarious.

Demon fortresses pretty much guarantee a short-lived fort.

Either you're going to get overrun by goblins very early on, since they are attracted to the value of the "excalibur"

OR you'll suffer FPS death because of all the zombie farts.
