Out of suddenly...FIREWALL
« on: October 16, 2010, 07:57:33 am »

Oh, I just loaded up my save, played a bit, designed a meeting zone (troglodytes began coming up my stairs).
So out of sudden my frame rate died and I find my fortress surrounded by a giant wall of flames, that still rages across my map, leaving only ashes behind.

Screenshot of the map :
[Warning. It's huge]
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

So what the hell just happen, there ain't no volcano or any giant flammable...thing around.

How hot was your embark? Scorching embarks have been known to set things on fire (such as items in caravans traveling through them). But I really doubt its this as environmental temperature would be likely to set the entire field on fire at once, rather than a part of it.

I think it's Armok's wrath. Build more temples, sacrifice more elves.

Maybe the temperature just got high enough to start a grassfire.

Never used Dwarf Therapist, mods or tilesets in all the years I've been playing.
I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.

They don't call it a Scorching biome for nothing.

Were there ambushers on your map that laid down campfires? Sometimes they will and it could cause a fire.

One of the dwarfs walked in front of Thor to get a better view of the prye, and Thor kicked him irritably into the middle of the flames, which made Thor feel slightly better and made all the dwarfs feel much worse.

That is INCREDIBLY AWESOME. Fuck it's origin, you need to find a way to weaponize it.

It's probably made from baby bone, with a handle of baby leather. Probably uses the leg bones wound together for the handle, the pelvis for the handle/pick joint, and the pick is the spine.

But that's all in theory, of course. Not like I've made a pick out of my own 5 month old baby before.

:B Okay. This is even more Fun than when I was playing adventure on a glacier and a wall of ice was about to engulf me. Also, I'm playing Genesis & Fauna and Flora mod.

Is it even possible to have a scorching temperature near a mountain. The logic is null.

Here is the save..

Genesis mod?
Are any of your Dwarfs Obsidian dwarfs?

They can cast fireballs when attacked. I once (almost crazily) made an Obsidian dwarf a hunter. Once he ran out of ammo, he started throwing fireballs at his prey.

Started a valley of firey death.

He died.

Lol.

at this point I'd wager on it being either a penis or a beard.
This is Dwarf Fortress. Of course it's either a penis or a beard!

If you have magma, just pump it onto some logs that are sitting on dry grass.  The logs will catch fire and it will spread to the grass.  It won't go up ramps to higher/lower z levels though...
