Viewing features on embark?
« on: October 21, 2010, 11:56:29 am »

I feel like a complete idiot because this seems like the simplest thing in the world... but there used to be loads of options in init.txt (now moved to d_init.txt) for showing the different features on the map at embark. Now under that part of the file, all I see is SHOW_EMBARK_TUNNEL. And I can't see much of anything at all when I try to choose my embark - all the layers show up as just "Rock", there's no way to see volcanoes or any of that cool stuff, etc etc. I've seen loads of screenshots (eg in worldgen cookbook threads) of people seeing this stuff on their embark maps, so how do you do it?

First:  Most of the underground features (chasms, underground rivers, magma pipes, etc) don't exist as such anymore.  Magma, underground water, and HFS are found essentially everywhere now if you dig deep enough.

Second, having nothing but generic 'rock' show up indicates something is seriously screwed up with your raws, like you've accidentally deleted all the rock definitions or something.  Have you done any modding?

Yes, but the only changes I've imported are from Mayday's pack - changing the TILE tags of most rocks and the DISPLAY_COLOR tags of some rocks. I made those changes manually using winmerge so those are the only tags that've changed. I'll revert those changes and see if it makes a difference, anyway.

EDIT: So reverting back to vanilla raws solved the problem - and thanks for that! - now to reapply my changes one by one until I find the one that breaks it! :D

EDIT: So it seems that changing the TILE tags is what's breaking it. Off to the modding forum!
