Megaproject
« on: October 14, 2010, 09:07:31 am »

Hey.

I'm on an island with a volcano, and I find myself primed to make an un-Armok-ly amount of glass blocks. What should I construct? What testament should my dwarves leave for the universe to say, "We were here, we made pretty terrible artifacts, and we drank a lot?"

Do you have infinite water?

Hollow out your entire embark and make it into a goldfish tank.

Or an underwater Dwarf terrarium, for the viewing pleasure of fish.

Or cover the entire island 30 Z-levels high with glass, cast a pillar of obsidian through the center of the volcano, and dig out the entire natural island, creating a sort of inverse upside-down glass island supported by the obsidian, probably over a giant patch of obsidian from where you dug out the magma pipe into the sea.

Bonus points if it's all clear glass.

Megadwarf bonus if it's all crystal glass.

Ultradwarf bonus if you use different colors of glass to make a pattern, or some kind of illustration.

AWEMEDINADE SUPERULTRADWARF INTERNET WIN if instead of a pillar of obsidian you have your island standing on a slender support pillar of obsidian, which you hook up to a lever to create a tsunami to wipe out all the mainland elves.

Magma cannon. Make a large tower out of glass, fill it with pressurized magma, and build a series of channels that can let out the magma on your invaders/elves/kittens/whatever.

All excellent suggestions. I reject them all in favor of building a colossal, map-spanning step pyramid made entirely out of green glass, covering the entire fort; this pyramid will be 147 tiles on a side at the base, with each "step" three z-levels high, three tiles wide, with three-tile-wide ramps going up each of the four sides to meet in the middle. This will be the everlasting monument of the fortress, Tomebelted.

Then fill it with water.

Also, make it out of clear glass. Otherwise it's been done before.  ;)

A pointless green glass tower for dumping nobles off of. Surmounted with a goblin axelord in a cage for your queen to meet. And a lave fall into the ocean of boiling doom. Bonus if all craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality and it menaces with spikes of kitten bone.

Glass questions (Re: Megaproject)
« Reply #7 on: October 15, 2010, 05:03:56 pm »

Are dwarves able to see through green glass ?
Can they get happy thoughts from a waterfall which is behind a wall of green glass wall ?
Are they scared by enemies passing on the other side of a green glass wall ?
And what about windows ?

Don't quote me on that.
Cacame channels aquifers into submission by staring at them. Cacame is so badass, kobolds give him their children to leave them alone. If Hidden Fun Stuff digs too far down, they hit Cacame. Cacame once took a Tantrum Spiral and impaled four enemies on it.

Has there been a giant glass chandelier hanging inside the hollow pyramid connected to a support that may be released upon the head of my dorfs?
