Suggestion for a possible magic system (fuel)

I'm not suggesting any particular implementation of magic. What I am suggesting is that if there ever is one that requires magic to cost something, instead of making a new stat for how much magic used one (or more) of the caster's attributes is lowered by some amount every time they use it.

I don't know whether it would be better for body attributes and soul attributes. The former could give you the archetypical "wizard that can wreck everyone's shit but is killed by a stiff breeze" while the latter would give Discworld model of magic where the point is to never use it and fit with how Toady doesn't want any magic that might be implemented to be too "industrial".
