Where are the great fights of Derm? Wood does not give a good fight.

There have been no fights at all.  None.  And none apparently coming soon.

In the spring, there was a cougar and some groundhogs in the surrounding cesspool of fail.  There is no more cougar.  Still plenty of groundhogs, and three wolves.  But Derm is not a hunter, he's a warrior.  Hime is the hunter.  And he can't even hunt yet.

Now of course, immediately after embarking we did get the ubiquitious "A section of the cavern has collapsed!" from somewhere beneath us.  WAY beneath us.  There are some 110+ Z-levels of 'beneath us' that can't be reached because of the Armok-cursed aquifer, which is why crossing that is a major focus right now :)

Well try to at least get me a barracks. Maybe delegate someone else to wood chopping duties.

Try to build a wooden shack or something so we won't be killed by kobolds or something.

Here's what Asmel has to say about those ideas ...

A barracks?  That's a great idea.  We have one weapon Derm -- that's your axe.  Consider yourself lucky to be able to use it in the course of your duties.  And it seems I need to remind you that everyone has to contribute to not just defense but also the labor.  We have no armor or ammunition to speak of, and we are overworked as it is trying to keep up with food and make any progress at all down below.  If we don't breach the aquifer, what exactly do you think we are going to get equipment from?  You want us to live forever on the surface like a sodding elf?

And Hime, seriously?  Kobolds?  Do you see any kobolds around here?  Are you afraid of them, you panzy?  Build a wooden shack?  Are we cowardly humans not even worthy to be called elves now?  Even the pointy-eared gits don't hide like that?  You're a dwarf, for crying out loud.  We have no enemies right now, but when we have earned the priviledge of having some, we will face them on the field of battle and either prove ourselves worthy of victory or die stupidly in the attempt.

**storms off muttering to himself**

By Armok, I'd rather be nursing a horde of actual infants ...

Suddenly, Rigoth shouts, "By Erib's bejewelled breasts!! LOOK! It's a kobold army on th' horizon!"
As Asmel is (hopefully) distracted, the lazy drunkard creeps over in an attempt to pilfer the liquor supply.

Just a quick post to say the journey of humiliation and fail will continue ... I've just had an unexpectedly crazy-busy weekend.

I'd like to claim the cheese maker.
Name: Killing Time (or KT)

We should get a donkey cheese industry going :D

I'd like the book keeper if that hasn't been claimed yet.

You can have it, but that is Asmel who is expedition leader also.  If that is ok, let me know and you will be added.

13th Limestone, 6

Some progress, but not much, has been made in clearing the first-level aquifer room.  It has become clear that further progress will not be possible until more dwarfpower is available to have more pumps operating(five max at present is not enough probably by half).

It has been decided to try another, smaller room to the north, with the goal of drying out a smaller section at a time, rather than waiting.  Clearly this project will take quite some time and frustration to finish.  But no dwarf of Asmel's will run from a challenge ... if they intend to continue breathing.

It is unclear as of yet whether the recently budding romance between Nicarom and Athel is having any impact on the miner's productivity and focus recently ...
