Station idle dwarf

Basically, I'd like to be able to designate a zone to have at least x idle dwarves at least y days of the month, only leaving to perform a menial (non-lever/lifesaving) task when another dwarf shows up to take his/her place. It seems like a simple, useful suggestion and will undoubtedly cause the Toady One countless headaches, exploding puppies and breaking ASCII. Fun ensues.

It'd be useful for lever duty and intruder spotting (when you can't make ropes to chain animals with yet), and be more reliable than a burrow (dorves can choose between any burrow they're in, and don't switch out to put the most capable dorf on current tasks) or meeting zones (dorves can choose any meeting zone, and a meeting zone isn't guaranteed to have a dorf unless you designate a single one for it. Same problem as the burrows, but even less reliable)

Something very like what you've got in mind could be achieved by letting on-duty military personnel pull levers.

Never used Dwarf Therapist, mods or tilesets in all the years I've been playing.
I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.

There's also the option of trapping one dwarf in a tiny sealed personal burrow with a bed, some food and all your levers, though whenever I try that the goblin sieges always seem to turn up whilst he's asleep.

Specific support would be a nice thing though. A dwarf who makes sure he's well-fed and healthy so he won't mind interrupting a meal or some sleep to pull that lever. If they can do other things while still in this kind of "lever duty" status, but interrupt those things if they find something they need to do quickly, that'd be ideal. No dorves wasted or untrained.
