Carvan arrival points
« on: October 08, 2010, 06:31:50 pm »

I'm experimenting with some minor engineering, and came upon a grand idea.

Carve a tunnel through the mountains to make roads for caravans to arrive in and pave it in pure electrum (I've got HUNDREDS of bars of it now).  If a paved road connects with the edge of the map, will caravans favor spawning on the road?

The only time I have been able to get caravans to spawn at a specific location on the edge of the map is by engineering things so that place is the only place with access to the depot, if that makes any sense  ???

and even then, the diplomat or whatever other visiting noble is likely to spawn somewhere else.

Let the map border (just the one tile) get full of trees. They can't spawn on threes.

They'll spawn on the road if there's no other way to get to the depot...

Thanks all, looks like i'll have to be scratching the idea then.  Cutting off the surface really isn't an option with how my fortress is set up.
