[38c] king consort strangely willing to help
« on: March 16, 2008, 01:21:00 am »

Ever since the queen arrived, the king consort has been miscellaneous chores like hauling wood.  I think he hauls other kinds of items too.  There aren't any other nobles doing this, just him.  Sorry if this isn't actually a bug.

This might fall under bug 129, but it seems to be different than nobles pulling levers, etc.

No.  It's just raw goods like logs, and stuff marked for dumping.  He's basically acting like a peasant.

Vaguely related nitpick:  Isn't the husband of a ruling Queen known as a Prince Consort?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_consort

Edit:  Further reading (thanks wikipedia!) reveals King Consort is used in some places as well.  It seems to have been more common back when the husband of a Queen-by-blood actually got to do all the ruling just because he was convex in the trouser department.  The Dwarves seem more "equal opportunity" than that.

Dwarves are equal opportunity because currently it's easier to code. Perhaps in the future there will be patriarchies, matriarchies, and varying degrees of equality differing by civ, and perhaps preferences by race (some races might prefer patriarchal societies, others matriarchal, still others might be strictly one or the other eg. Kzin or Armok's Hornets or other species where one sex has that much dominance genetically).

It would make interspecies diplomacy rather difficult if one race cannot respect a male diplomat and the other cannot respect a female diplomat. Just sayin'.

This is a fox skull helmet. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It menaces with spikes of fox bone and is encircled with bands of fox leather. This item is haunted by the ghost of Alfador Angrorung the fox.

My duke's wife has the damndest urge to help out with miscellaneous masonry removal projects on occasion.  She's been in at least one cave-in caused by carelessness on my part as a result.

Yeah, I've seen all nobles doing this.  Children too.  None of them do actual hauling though.
