Visit your fort
« on: September 28, 2010, 02:36:27 pm »

Sorry if this has been suggested before. I did a search but didn't find anything, doesn't mean it hasn't been posted though amiright?  :P

I think it would be cool to have an option to leave your fort without abandoning it. doing this would make you fort act like any other town on the map. You'd be able to visit it as an adventurer and even get quests, buy things, etc. There should be times when you can't do this though, like during ambushes and sieges. Then when your all done adventuring you could return to your fort.

On an unrelated note, will mine carts be solid?  A U shaped entry hall/mine cart trap would be hilarious.  :)

I think if you get a queen/king and become the mountain homes, that is what actually happens.

Or maybe there's a god who's just completely insane and sends you to Detroit, Michigan in a new body if you ever utter the name "Pat Sajak".

AFAIK if your fort becomes the capital, abandoning it doesn't kill all the dwarfs, but they still act as homeless, so all items are abandoned, and the dwarfs all give homeless responses, there is also no way to just "reactivate" the fort in this situation.

i really want to be able to do this too.  then be able to park an adventurer or two at the fort and resume with an awesome hero(es) living there.

and then to take it a step further: when a siege happens, be able to play an adventurer during, and turn the tide through crazy heroics.

dwarf fortress is already the best world-building game, but it could also become the best adventure/rpg game.

I must agree with this, and if possible allow Adventurers to pull the 'end the world' traps that people make, IE allowing magma/lava to start, slowly, covering the map. I know the map already takes into account the human's logging industry, if humans put a town somewhere with a forest in world gen soon enough the forest is ripped apart into shrublands.

This has been suggested before, but I'm with it.

Also, I thought that it could be great if you could start your game as an indipendent squad, not related to any existing civ, and slowly build your own civ one fort at a time.

It could also be epic win sieging your own fort in adventure mode.
