Oldest forts
« on: October 06, 2010, 04:40:30 pm »

So, I've kept my latest fort alive long enough for animals to die of old age, which is quite a feat for me. So my question is: whats the longest lasting fort you've ever had?

The one I have right now. I set the pop cap to 20, and I have 31 denizens.

My longest fort was maybe 30 years?

The longest fort EVER (I don't remember the name, but its somewhere) was over 200 years.

I ran a 40d fort for I think 37, maybe 38, years.  It had over 400 dwarves in it.

With [SLOW_LEARNER], dwarves probably don't sit around and talk anymore. They just stand in the same corner altogether, staring at each other, sticking their bearded lips out trying to make sounds. And giggling when someone actually says a whole word.

I had a fort go for like 40 years. Above ground wooden fort. Dragon burned it down. Watching the towercap tower collapse was glorious.

What? He's firing from the hip.

Oldest fort of mine went for nine years. I stopped when the fps got too low and a clothing bug irritated me too much.

four years for me. I usually get bored/think of a better idea/megaproject/torture device by that point.

I don't ever make it past 6-8 years.  Either fps-death or boredom with the current fort always sets in around that time.

But walls don't burn... and mine was 2 years.

5 years. The reason for the death of the fort is a mystery; archeologists have found enough food and booze in storage to last for decades, there was an abundance of resources and wealth in the vaults below, and there was no sign of a struggle, as all of the underground caverns were walled off. It appears that one day, the dwarves simply got up and left.

I.E., I abandoned the fort because I was bored.

At the moment im still just getting into DF (first forum post yay) but my spectator friend challenged me to stick with my current fortress till its fall. (its a nice little place situated on a major river waterfall that has a stream flowing into it at the bottom of the waterfall) I Currently have a bridge over the chasm on z-level up from the waterfall and im hoping to, after a good amount of history-worthy events, engrave the entire natural cliff face using wooden scaffolds which i will deconstruct afterwards. Im dearly hoping to keep this one running as long as i can, Armok Willing.
