 I lol'd.

 It was a good thing after the killing of my legendary armorsmith, two months later, another armorsmith got a mood and got to legendary. Unfortunately, he then died of a sand raider ambush that just sprung out of nowhere. After driving them back, the mayor then had another mandate on two legged lizard horned items...

The room is three z-levels high, 3 wide and 5 long.  The middle level is where the fun happens; it's floor is made of magma-proof floor gates.  There is a side tap from my magma pump stack down a short channel at the top of the third z-level.

There are four levers.  One inside the room, three outside the room.  The room has entrances on either end on the mid level, and one on the lowest level, as well as one on the highest level.

Urist McDoomed goes into the room.  Urist McDoomed pulls lever A, sealing himself inside.

Urist McOblivious comes along and pulls lever B.  Lever B opens the floodgate on the upper level, allowing magma to pour into the room.  The room begins to fill with fun.

Urist McDoomed becomes Urist McAshes. 

Urist McOblivious comes along and pulls lever B, lever B shuts off the torrent of magma.  Then he pulls lever C.  Lever C opens a floodgate on the lowest level which drains the fun into a sump.  You can recover this magma for obsidian fun, or other uses, if you wish.  I just let it sit at the bottom of a sump that slowly fills.

When the room is drained to an acceptable level, Urist McOblivious comes along agian and pulls lever D.  Lever D opens the other entrance into the middle level of the fun room.  Urist McOblivious then walks in and pulls lever A, opening the main entrance again.  He then walks back and pulls lever D again, closing the second exit to the room.

And this is how my nobles have fun.

Yes, I could use something much simpler, like a basic pitfall trap into fun, but that wouldn't be nearly as fun for me.

]Nope, not a bug. Your mayor just happens to have a preference for slade, and as such will make mandates involving it (whether that be creating slade items or banning export of slade items). Preferences will randomly pick from the multitude of stone types and doesn't take into consideration whether the stone is available on your map or if it can be dug out at all...this has always pissed off players who like to follow mandates - other item creation mandates which have tended to cause problems have been adamantine (for obvious reasons), crystal glass (if you didn't have raw rock crystals on your map in 40d then you were totally screwed. Now that you can import raw crystal glass, this is probably easier) and bismuth (the only bismuth item you can make is bismuth bars)

Actually, it is a bug - nobles never make mandates for stone goods (the last time they did was back in the old 2D version), but worlds generated in 0.31.12 and earlier mark slade (and raw adamantine and all of the "native" metal ores) as both a stone and a metal, making it eligible for material-based mandates. Version 0.31.13 fixed those stones to no longer be treated as metals, so worlds generated in that version (and later) will never get mandates for slade items.
