High region rejects: good, bad, unimportant?
« on: February 06, 2008, 01:59:00 pm »

I'm sure I read something about a seed with a lot of rejects being a bad choice.. but I can't find it again, and I don't remember why it's bad to have a lot of rejects. Anyone able to clue me in on this?

The bad part is the waiting.

They take longer, especially on lower end machines (to generate that is)

Zero reject seeds are precious because people with low end machines can use them to generate no-fuss worlds. Highest rejects ive had so far was in the region of 71. Takes so long -_-.

I vaguely recall huge (i.e. in the hundreds) reject amounts back in the 2D version. I think. Were they really that high?

EDIT: I downloaded the very first version. It had 21 rejects before it froze. At the very least the old reject went high.

Last night I brought DF to a friend of mine to show him what's that game I've been talking about all the time. So he unzips the game and starts generating, and gets 140 rejects with a random seed. I barely stopped him from cancelling mid-generation as he was getting quite bored of waiting.

Only 140? I had over 800 last night.

Okay, so it's just a convenience thing. I thought I remembered something about high-reject worlds having a lot of difficulties and substandard/prime terrain/minerals.. but that could've been for an older version and no longer relevant, too. Okay, thanks!
