A matter of grave religious importance
« on: October 02, 2010, 02:51:47 am »

Dear toady:

Me and my buddies are dying to know (actually dying- like, someone was knifed last time we talked about it) - what is dwarf fortress being developed with?

Not the language- I mean the environment, the tools. What are you using as a text editor? A fancy IDE with usage search/syntax highlighting/autocompletion or something more old school, like Notepad++?

You're compiling with visual studio for windows, and presumably xcode for osx and gcc on linux- but on the system you develop on (rather than port on), what windows are open when you're getting your strange mood on?

I'm in srs envy of your productivity, and putting aside discussions about personality types or motivations or whatever, I just want to know what you've naturally gravitated towards- what you find least irritating.

OOO, I would like to ask a little more about it. What coding practices do you try to follow? Do you have any golden rules when it comes to no-no's when you code? Is there any code habits you later learned were definately a bad idea?

I believe he mentioned using visual studio express edition at the last meetup.

I seem to recall something about him switching to Visual Studio 2010 as of 31.13.

This is the kind of thing we need to be asked on DF Talk. Really though? This would be excellent. Please, seriously. We need more like this. PEOPLE OF THE WORLD! LISTEN TO ME!

What, don't feel like expounding on nuclear possibilities? ;3

This is also the stated reason why compatibility with Pre-XP versions of windows was lost around that time.

*hugs VS2010*

It's like using a chainsaw instead of a hatchet.  Cannot imagine how I ever coded without it.
