Dwarves, Dumping and Difficulties
« on: October 29, 2010, 03:46:13 am »

As part of my current 'project' I need to clear a very large area of stone (211,680 tiles have been mined so far...), and things were going fine until all my dwarves decided that dumping stuff just wasn't going to happen, despite the fact that half of them are idle!

I've tried everything I can think of, and nothing seems to fix the problem

Things I've tried:

1. Toggling every option in the refuse menu (o-r)
2. Redesignating the dumping zone
3. Toggling the dumping zone from active to inactive to active again
4. Locking a door and unlocking it to reset the pathing data
5. Taking everybody off refuse hauling and then putting them back on
6. Undumping everything then only dumping a small portion of it all

Yet nothing seems to have any effect...

Is there anything I can do to get them to start dumping stuff again?

Why bother with dumping? Just will the place with magma.

I would, but the shiny stuff is still there. Besides, it's going to be a giant obsidian mold when it's all finished, so magma's involved anyway.  :P

Is there a burrow in play?

Why bother with dumping? Just will the place with magma.

That doesn't actually work very well, since it'll just leave a whole bunch of globs of molten stone that will never disappear - they're likely to be swept into the glitchy "hammerspace" (where temperature no longer has an effect on them), and even if they aren't, globs of molten stone don't disappear during season changes like they did in 40d.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

I found the solution!

Basically, I looked in the Jobs Menu (j) and saw they were all trying to dump zombie elephant corpses into a refuse pile outside of my locked gate. Now that's fixed, my project can continue!

On a side note, fixing that boosted my FPS considerably...

I don't want to have to think about any difficulties a dwarf might be having with his dumping...

No...although if ToadyOne could include sewage as a default-off in the init files, and you could turn it off, I think it would satisfy everyone. Assuming ToadyOne doesn't mind and isn't busy.
If not, then someone has to mod it.
