Sod, mud, clay, and peat.
« on: October 02, 2010, 09:01:27 am »

So, I got this idea for the possibility of digging out certain types of soil and using the material dug out to build things with. For instance, a Sod/clay/mud brick house. I've fancied building a Pueblo style village in a desert biome lately.

You could probably harvest the "raw" sod/mud/clay and turn it into bricks which can be used for building. And maybe the ability to build farms on sod roofs could work.

I was reading about peat, which is used in some places as fuel (when dried). It could be used as an alternative to wood burning and coal. Also, a type of impure iron develops in peat bogs called bog iron.

The wiki says the Vikings used bog iron for most of their smelting.

Genesis has "compact peat" as fuel.
Genesis also has bog iron ("goethite").

So yeah, it works and it's commonly used (at least by me).
