I really don't get it. I mean, I'm wandering out in the middle of nowhere. There are no animals, no villages, only the terrain and plants. Am I missing something?

Shift-T to cross long distances to get to exciting things like towns and caves.  Also, adv. mode in .13 and .14 is a little broken, so stick with .12 until Toady finishes the new features.

Is there a version of .12 I can download with a tileset? Nothing against the ASCII graphics and stuff, but I'm a bit on the colorblind side, and a tileset makes everything a bit more readable to me.

You can download the tilesets by themselves and then add it to your version manually, it should have instructions on how to do that in the readme. Assuming legacy mode can have tilesets (I'm not really sure what the difference is between the regular versions and the legacy versions)

I can't figure out how to install the tileset, so I guess I'll just stick with learning fortress mode instead until adventure mode is fixed.
