Combat log as poetry
« on: September 16, 2010, 11:20:28 pm »

I found this at random, and felt like sharing:

Quote
When others play Dwarf Fortress, it usually results in epic tales of tragedy recalling Balin’s ill-fated attempt to retake Moria. When I play Dwarf Fortress, it generates surreal Beat poetry about animal abuse.

This is quite the avantgarde poetry.

Is there somewhere I can actually read it? I don't really want a migraine today.

I once shot a bear in the eye with a bow on the first shot, cut it up, found another one, and shot it in the eye too. The collective pile of meat weighed more than my house.

I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by tantrums, starving hysterical naked,
    dragging themselves through the dwarven streets at dawn looking for a helpless cat;

I cant help but hear in my mind a jazz bassist and drummer busting out some cool rhythms while a guy in a beret with a hemp backpack reads that in a coffe shop.

The cat stands up.

A cat can stand up.

I think I might use "Winter is Upon You" in place of "Enjoy your FUN" for a while anyway.

Sounds like a plan.

That's quite poetic... I especially like the last paragraph:

Quote
The Fisherdwarf places a chokehold on The Glassmaker’s throat with The Fisherdwarf’s right upper arm! The Fisherdwarf strangles The Glassmaker’s throat! The Fisherdwarf strangles The Glassmaker’s throat! The Fisherdwarf strangles The Glassmaker’s throat! The Fisherdwarf strangles The Glassmaker’s throat! The Fisherdwarf strangles The Glassmaker’s throat!

Iton Vudtharlibash, Glassmaker has bled to death.

The Fisherdwarf stands up.

Now imagine that with a theatrical voice from the middle of the stage, becoming louder and louder with each strangling, but the final two lines only whispered... I've seen much worse from professional and acclaimed authors ;)
