33d Dwarves deconstruct tile they are standing on
« on: December 07, 2007, 12:31:00 pm »

Dwarves Deconstruct the tile they are standing on so often times they can fall to their death if I'm building a 3-story structure. The is especially true if they are deconstructing stairs. They will fall all the way to the bottom of the stairwell.

This is rather well-documented, but it still is annoying as hell.

What do you expect from beings who will happily pick up and wear burning clothing? Common sense? Don't think so.

Build a dwarf a fire and he'll be warm for a day. Hand him clothes on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

Hm, well, I've had dwarves deconstruct floors 3 levels up and land on grass and be fine with only a brown injury.

My stray dogs often chase fire imps back into the magma pipe and then continue fighting while burning and drowning in the lava. Truly their loyalty knows no bounds, but perhaps it should.

After building a massive Magma Processing Plant, I was forced to temporarily cap the one-square channels I dug to keep critters out.  While uncapping to build the Magma buildings, I already lost labourer to this bug/feature, and I stand to lose another 5 or so.

Apparently if you place a floodgate, statue, or other path-blocking piece of furniture on the space you wish to remove, first, then you can safely remove it and then the item you used to block it. This is tedious, but it works under all circumstances I can think of at the moment.
