Breeding pit if you can recage them when you need a shitton of bones. The hostile animals will be hostile to their own young and kill them all. When you get enough skeletons, just open a door to a cage trap hall beyond which is the exit. Recage, process skeletons, work bones, repeat.

Would it be possible to separate the young somehow to get breeding pairs?

Perhaps chained parents in a room with flowing water?

The way I use invader animals works like this:

- usually the animals get impregnated by each other as soon as they arrive on the map. Only exception is if there's only animals of one gender.
- I try to catch them in cage traps before they give birth
- their children will be born in the cage with them, but inside a cage they can't kill them off.
- so once they gave birth, I assign the parent animals to the slaughterpit and mark the kids for taming. THOSE you can tame ;)

note that animals won't get pregnant in cages, so unless you go through a "let them out of the cage, cage them again" routine you won't be able to get more than one set of offspring out of the hostile parent animals.

1 z-level pit with lockable access door leading to cage traps.
