13th  Hematite 211

A small army of goblins was spotted by the lookouts.  Finally a chance to prove our army's worth.
17th Hematite 211
Ast Enkosatis won the mayoral election.  I had some people move his stuff into his new room.

I'm a bit concerned about Logem Lisiditon, one of our siege operators.  He’s been in a coma since I arrived and hasn’t eaten nor drank anything for over a week.  If this keeps up his death may seriously affect morale.

23rd Hematite 211

A goblin scout killed the war dog chained up at the gate.  After the dumb creature was finished it took two steps towards the entrance and fell into a cage trap.

4th Malachite 211

I'm tired of waiting for those damned goblins to charge us.  I took all of our markdwarves and moved to charge the enemy .  Upon gathering at the base of the hill, Dumed Amnekaban proceeded to charge up the hill towards a goblin We were taking pot shots at.  To our horror, she ran right past the goblin, which was charging at us, to get closer to the bulk of the enemy force.  she charged a pair of swordsgoblins near the edge of the cliff, running right up to them with a mighty roar...and proceeded to shove one off the edge.  It flailed as it fell, screaming as it watched the ground rush at it while Dumed proceeded to bash the other swordsgoblin's head to a pulp with her crossbow.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
She then turned and loosed a hail of bolts at the knot of goblins at the top of the cliff, killing two before she ran out of bolts.  By this time we were finishing turning the goblin at the bottom of the hill into a pincushion.  She charged the other six, bellowing with bloodlust as she tore into them with her bronze crossbow, dodging blows from five swordsgoblins and a wrestler.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
She killed two of the swordsgoblins before the rest turned and ran...right at us.  We shot at them as they ran screaming past us, ignoring us entirely as Dumed was hot on their heels.  She ran past us as we shot at the fleeing goblins, killing three of the last four, a stray bolt killing one goblin just as dumed was going to  finish it off.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The last one escaped.   Our glorious victory was soured by the death of Logem Lisiditon.  He was found dead in his bed, having died of thirst.  He will be missed.

On a positive note, Dumed is now the new captain of the guard.

17th Malachite 211

I've started a project to channel magma into a moat around the fortress, giving us more freedom to sally forth and attack seiging armies without having to worry about the fortress itself.

26th Malachite 211

The magma trench is coming along well, soon a tunnel will be dug to release magma from the main pipe into the channel.  Mistem Adilfoker, a bone carver of ours became possessed as well.

5th Galena 211
Mistem the possessed bone carver finished his artifact, an ugly bone piccolo of little value.  I won’t even bother sketching it in here.  I beat him with it while roaring at him to get back to making those bone bolts for me and my marksdwarves.

22nd Galena 211[/u][/b]
The lava moat is filling up nicely, Its completion, along with the completion of an archer turret near the entrance will render the vast majority of the fortress' defenses irrelevant.  We will fill this chokepoint with cage traps.  And finally something good has happened to offset the death of Logem Lisiditon.  Amost Oltarkithin, a peasant girl(pretty little thing too) gave birth to a baby girl today.  A party was organized at the silver statues in the inner bailey and I decided to let it pass because of the occasion.  Normally I break up parties to keep productivity up.

Niceee. McMath finally stepped down from Mayoral office.

Great story telling. The little battle was a pretty nice read.

23rd Galena

Alas...trajedy.  Zas Eraltaran, one of our bone carvers tripped while carrying some cut logs next to the lava moat.  It seems the logs lit up while he was carrying them and he burned to death.

4th Limestone

Likot Erushlektad gave birth to a boy.  Surely the people of this fort are bipolar in thier spirits.

14th limestone

These damn lazy bastards.  Three of my soldiers are dying of thirst because no one can be bothered to lift an iron bucket.  The just stand over the bucket and look at it before walking away, often whistling as they pass by a soldier dying of thirst.

And Urist McMath gave birth to a son today.

17th limestone

the city liason from dishmab dobar has arrived with a caravan.
A human diplomat also arrived.

18th limestone

one of the guards, a dwarf named sazir, died of neglect.
The caravan was attacked by an ambush en route to the fortress.

1st sandstone 211

Its gotten boring around here.  We have metals coming out our ears, All the traders have to sell is meat, and the fort is safer than the inside of an adamantium chest.  I wonder what I should do at this point.

2nd Sandstone

A second ambush was spotted.  They managed to jump a kitten, tearing the creature asunder like the oh so intimidating little barbarians they are.  Let them come.

3rd Sandstone

Grim Sikelsolon, a miner, chased down and killed a goblin master theif while it was busy butchering a cat.  Whiskers will be remembered for his bravery.

27th Sandstone

Libash Koganonam has become an official master of the art of the sword.  We salute his prowess.

9th timber

3 dwarves are chained up due to the rediculous demands of the nobles.  A Woodworker and a mason are imprisoned for trading something that was apparently banned from export.  And a pump operator, whos name escapes me, is chained up for telling the tax collector he doesnt know how to make anything of clear glass.  Poor Bastard.

16th timber

One of our siege operators ran past me screaming about a need for shells.  He took over a mason's workshop.

26th timber

Human diplomat arrived.  The boredom is killing me.  I think I'll go back to my drinking in just a minute.

3rd Moonstone

Ast Enkosatis, the mayor, Just gave birth to a boy.  A party followed, which I let pass for once.

23rd Moonstone

Lorbam Ustuthzimkel has become an official master of the art of the sword.  We salute his prowess.

25th Moonstone

We've captured an entire squad of ambushing goblins.  Luck smiles upon us.  I think I may turn the holding pens into a zoo.

15th Opal

It seems one of our pump operators left a magma pump on as the lava moat is now full and the ground outside is burning. Some dry grass caught fire and the flames are spreading everywhere.  This is a problem.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

20th Opal

The fire is spreading uncontrollably, great plumes of smoke rise into the sky and the sky glows red at night as the fire devours everything in it's path.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

1st Obsidian

Oh gods what have we done?  The world is burning!  A wall of flames marches across the sea of dark grass, igniting all in its path as smoke billows into the sky.  I'm sure they can even see it from mountainhomes.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

10th Obsidian

Its raining ash upon the fortress, the smell of smoke lingers in even the deepest corridors of the fortress.  We can taste the burning grass...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

15th Obsidian

The fire has moved on. smoke rises from the north as the fire has left our borders, hopefuly to spread to elven forests.  Still, the devestation is terrible. It will take months for the smoky smell and the ash blow away.

25th Obsidian

I began packing up my office today in preparation for my replacement.  I've taken a nice, comfy bed in the barracks and polish my crossbow and oil the string daily.  I think I'll retire to commander, that way...in some indirect fashion, I can continue training the well oiled machine of a military I built for this fortress. Yes... I think I'll do that.

1st Granite

I step down from my post today.  The count will indoctrinate the next overseer when he appoints one.  I wish the best of luck to the next dwarf who takes charge.
