Obscure car parts
« on: September 17, 2010, 04:59:57 pm »

Where in the world am I going to find a 1991 Chrysler Fifth Avenue New Yorker headliner board? My headliner fabric started sagging, so I decided to replace it., and found the foam dry rotted off, and the board itself was in a miserable condition.

Wrecking yard. Might take a while, but keep going to the local ones asking if they have a car of that model, then rip out/get them to rip out the part you want.

Failing that, forums for that type of car, if such a thing exists.

Hmm, perhaps the wreakin' yard. The trouble I see with it is those cars are all at least 20 years old, so I don't know if grabbing another one would be of any use. Some people are suggesting creating my own, or making it out of something such as foam instead of fiberglass.

There's plenty of cars at wrecking yards that aren't super old, they just got totalled.

In this case I would recommend taking it to an upholstery shop. Most headliner boards from that era failed in 10-15 years. Sooner if you live in a high humidity area or if the interior was wet often, you would notice condensation on inside of car windows.

An upholstery shop can manufacture something out of particle board and match the interior fabric for around $80-$160.
