Overfishing?
« on: December 03, 2007, 09:26:00 am »

This happened to me for the third time (version 33a, b and c, all clean installs):
From year 3 or so, my fishing spots (brook, ponds, swamps) replenish as normal at the beginning of the year. At least when I hover over the activity zones with , they give a value >0 for fishing.
But one moment later (I think when a fisherdwarf starts fishing) the value is 0 in all waters. Without even one fish caught. And it stays like that for the rest of the year. Until spring, and then, same procedure as every year, James. (For those who know 'Dinner for One'. LOL) No more fish.   :(
I'm using two fisherdwarfs, both not even legendary yet. I kicked their fisherbutts and made them hunt elephants out of sheer misery.
Annoying bug. I mean, food aplenty but I WANT FISH.

After a few years, my brook ceased to contain fish.  I had to give my fishers and cleaners other jobs because the fish do not return.

Stop fishing, start importing fish if you really want it, and wait a few years to see if they get restocked.

Well it sounds definitely buggy if you don't even pull up 1 fish.

Strangely, I've pumped reservoirs between walls that spontaneously generated fish.  It was usually enough fishing for 1 dwarf, if they disappeared they'd come back pretty soon.  That fortress was a couple versions ago.

It goes for stagnant ponds as well as my brook.

I did. I did. I waited. 3 years. No respawn.
