"Job Cancellation" Behind a Wall
« on: September 03, 2010, 07:28:52 pm »

I'm currently under siege and have pulled up my drawbridge and hunkered down.  However, I want to add to my walls, carve in some fortifications and build a nice tower.  However, whenever I assign my dwarves to do these construction duties, I'm bombarded with a flurry of job-cancellation messages due to the presence of an enemy.  But I'm safely behind walls!  Enemies can't path in. What gives?

1) If Urist McCoward can see an enemy, s/he can be interrupted by doing so.

2) If Urist McNotAmnesiac has been injured by an enemy, they sometimes continue to react to said enemy as if in their presence until they're dead, or at least off-map.a

So it's all about dwarven line-of-sight and not the actual threat posed by the enemy?

I just added a layer of solid wall one space behind the fortifications (so my marksdwarves can still shoot) to protect the delicate sensibilities of my civilians from the horrors of seeing an enemy.

How'd you get the wall built without being interrupted? :P

Between sieges. ;)

Also my marksdwarves were able to largely drive-off the goblin swordsmen who were camped in the inconvenient location.
