Dwarves shouldn't drink in archery range...
« on: October 05, 2007, 09:25:00 pm »

I've noticed a disturbing trend among my dwarves - they seem to take their beer into the archery range, then proceed to sit down to drink it RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE TARGETS!  At the same time as the archers are practicing, moreover...

It's a good thing we don't have friendly fire yet.  Or do these dwarves have a death wish?  It's certainly not a lack of tables and chairs - I have plenty of those, even when there's a party on one of the dining rooms.

It's possible that they've also been bringing food to eat there, though I haven't seen it.

Maybe they get trashed and play William Tell?

I think what they're doing is cleaning up the broken bolts, and yes, it is disturbing to see Marksdwarves shooting right past somebody on the Archery range.

Actually, that's the exact reason I have my archery range (and statue garden) in my dining room. It's a dinner and a show!

Well, their preferences screen said they were drinking, and they had barrels of beer in their inventories...

I think it  has something to do with drinking in barracks code.

And I can just see 'justice' with this... e.e

Dwarves sometimes like to carry barrels to remote locations of your fortress just for kicks.  Honestly, I don't know what makes them do that.  They just go for a drink, and take the barrel with them when they're done.

Yeah, it seems that if a dwarf receives a beating while they're drinking, they'll take the barrel with them to bed. I had a guy rest his injury for about a year while he had a barrel. I think he finally recovered. Never heard a peep from him, I think he was happy the whole time. I wonder why? :P

I've never actually seem them carry a barrel off somewhere else to drink it though. But I think I've had some dwarves bug out while drinking and they'll keep carrying the barrel around until they finally drop it for one reason or another.

Are you sure the barrel he was carrying wasn't simply an artifact he created?

Yes. I've never had an artifact barrel created ever.

Well, given that one of the dwarves I saw doing  this was a noble, I doubt it was an artifact barrel.  Also, this isn't exactly an isolated occurance - I once had two dwarves sitting in the same space right in front of the targets.

I have my archery butts on the inside of my fortifications so a miss flys out randomly into the wilds.  I have never seen a soldier clean, though I have seen plenty of dwarves "grab a traveller" and wander off with their barrel to wherever they were going. (ive found them by the smelters, no decorating jobs ever) Ive also had my sherrif chasing a dwarf with a barrel of booze while carrying a barrel of booze, he was still holding it while delivering the beating (what sort of damage bonus does my topshelf tipple get?).

Your damage bonus depends of the quality of the beer in the barrel, of course!  :D
