I'm not much of one for the telling of epic tales like the ones most of you seem to pull out of your
asses fortresses. But when I see somethin' funny, it must be told. (I started playing DF about 2 weeks ago from this post so this is my breakout story
)
I had just discovered the magma sea deep down under my badlands embark point, and after much tedious work at constructing the channels and pumps, a fire man popped out of the hole I had channeled down for the first pump. At the time, I had about 4 civvy dwarves down there pullin' out raw adamantine from the pillar that was amazingly close to where I had decided to initially dig down from. Anyway, the fire man is chasing these dwarves around, hurlin' fire and slappin' one occasionally. It didn't really do any damage for the first five minutes (I'd already called in the militia cap'n but she was takin' her dear sweet freakin' time). During this time they would run back and forth between the stairs in the adamantine column and my fortresses main stairway. And also, all this time, a kitten was down there tryin' her dear best to stay alive in the fire filled hallway as well. When the fire man actually got around to doing damage to the farmer(butcher?dyer?potashmaker?) he was chasin', the farmer stood his ground and started smacking back, and so did the lil' kitten. Well, a lil' kitten ain't gonna do much vs. fire, so eventually fire killed farmer and kitten. But the kicker here is that the kitten took chunks of 'im with her. Did much more damage than the farmer who missed most of his pathetic attacks, immobilizing it and havin' it just sit there to wait for the militia commander to come and finish the job.
What I gleaned off this story? Cuteness kills.
