Well, considering its the only roguelike that has a cost attached to it, and it has less gameplay and overall value than even roguelikes in ALPHA, I consider it a rip off.

It is challenging at first but, like the rest of the game, once you have surmounted the initial challenge of surviving you are pretty much home free.

ADOM, Stone Soup, Nethack... all three of these are free roguelikes with more gameplay and depth than UnReal World.

The game is what you make out of it. Try to play as vegetarian or cannibal or try to conquer the whole continent from W to E and then from N to S, or try to survive the winter without a hut. I know its pretty shallow, but i play it once in a while and always find stuff to do.

My first game involved me wandering around until a Njerpez or whatever those red wandering hostile guys are called found me.  It was unknown to me that these guys were actually deadly, since on his first swing he dropped his sword, and I took it and used it on him.

Cue 100-round match of me missing horribly with both the sword and my knife, and him missing horribly with his feet.  Except when he disarmed me, which added 100 more rounds of picking up my weapons to the 100 rounds of "attack > with what? > at [bodypart]".  Anyway, he was still able to land more hits than I could, but since I had a sword and he only had his fists and feet, I won.

After that I was kinda tired/beat up, so I went around looking for something to grab off trees or something.  Didn't find anything, so I just decided to take a nap.  Keep in mind, this was my first game, so I didn't think to put up a fence or anything.

Woken up in the middle of the night by noises.  I go to investigate, and I find a wild dog.  "No problem!", I think to myself.  "After all, I just killed a warrior guy with a sword, right?"

The -instant- I moved next to it, I was dead.  Not even knocked down, not even one swing at it.  Dead, instantly.

Another time a couple more games in, I had a mostly-successful little encampment going on.  Then the tutorial module thing I had picked (which gave me tools like an axe, which was awesome) told me to go find the western map edge or something, so I set off in my boat.

Eventually I got tired though, so I found a bank to get some rest, and just laid down in the open.

The dogs were sneakier this time, I didn't even wake up.
