Dyeaxe: The Ice Fortress
« on: September 16, 2010, 04:09:32 pm »

Hey Guys,

Just for fun I've decided to start on a secondary project to my main fortress, which is a fortress in the frozen South. I've also decided to write a blog about it, in the form of the diary of the expedition leader "'Happy' Fikodnil".

Here goes.

2nd Granite 253:
There's nothing here. Just... nothing. Trees, snow, foxes, bears, snow, ice, and trees. Oh - and snow. Well, first things first, we've dug ourselves some shelter, it's freezing outside. Inside it's getting nice and warm though! There's not even any water here, just ice. Have only dug emergency shell-scrapes at the moment, haven't even found rock yet. Anything is better than staying out here in the cold. Will try to find a way of melting the Ice later.

5th Granite 253:
Got a militia commander at least - enough to scare away the bear. [Military controls have changed since the last version I played so I'm going to have to work it out via wiki soon] Though he seems to be scared of cats so maybe that was a bit over the top. Made sure people can't wander off anymore, it looks dangerous out there, don't want anyone freezing to death.

7th Granite 253:
Dug down quite far - found some water! An underground pool it looks like, we'll get a well up as soon as we can. Still no rock though - plenty of trees to make wood though. The bear killed two of our dogs, looks like we might have a fight on our hands. Scary stuff. The water is an underground river - thank the lord.
Logged
The once dark-grey walls are now the dark brown of stained blood. At either side of the path leading to the great granite gates is covered with the corpses and skeletons of Goblin invaders.
Some are still fresh. One is still moving.
As you approach the gate a nervous guard looses a bolt in your direction. Silence... Slowly, gradually, the huge doors screech open. Inside there is a courtyard, the floor wet with blood. Welcome to the front-line. Welcome; to Cloisteredwood.
