Dig a long and wide pit and then build a bridge over it. Pit the troll and any mountain goats you can get. See how many goats it takes to kill a troll.

Construct the cage ('b' then 'j') right next to the pit so that the dwarf will immediately toss the creature into the pit.

Make sure that you remove any ramps before you pit a creature though as you don't want them coming right back out of the pit.

Build a 20-z-level high sacrificial altar over your dining room, so that a hole in it comes eight over one of the tables; Gouge one of your dwarves' eyes out; Wait until he comes to eat atthat table; Dump troll on it; Check if he'll mistake it for food.

You could always mod in [BUTCHERABLE] and turn them into delicious "troll biscuits" and tallow for soap. It's a very effective way to deal with surplus trolls.

There is no [BUTCHERABLE] token - since trolls are intelligent creatures, your dwarves will only butcher them if you modify their ethics to permit eating sapient creatures.

Actually, I did get my dwarfs to butcher and eat trolls without changing the dwarfs' ethics just by adding that tag/token to their raws. Shame it was not that easy to do the same to the elves though...

... Am I the only one who sees troll tanners, architects and other professions as viable military training? I've been feeding anything non-dwarfish ranging from herbivores to invaders to my military as training. Trolls are just another flavour of blood-spatters to me.

I second the flame war idea. Light him on fire to arm him, then douse him with magma. Instant satire of an internet flame war.
