Increasing tilesize or zoom?
« on: August 27, 2010, 04:11:55 am »

I've been playing the Lazy newb pack version of the game and I decided to install the mayday graphics because I prefer the way they looked in comparison to phoebus(the default tileset for the newb pack). However when I went back into the game after replcaing the appropirate files I couldn't zoom in as far and the replacement tiles were tiny. Do I need to increase the size of the tiles? if so, how?

I'm no specialist, but I'm guessing the settings are different for those two tilesets. Check your /data/init/init.txt, this is how mine looks:
Code: [Select]
This is the size and font for windowed mode.  Changing to the 800x600 font might make you happier.
If set below 256x256 it specifies the grid size instead, with a minimum of 80x25.

[WINDOWEDX:80]
[WINDOWEDY:25]
[FONT:mayday.png]

You may disable window resizing if you wish.
[RESIZABLE:YES]

Full screen info.  The 0s below mean that the game will choose a resolution for you, but you can set it yourself as well.

[FULLSCREENX:0]
[FULLSCREENY:0]
[FULLFONT:mayday.png]

If this is set to NO, tiles will be stretched to fit the screen if there is a resolution mismatch.
If this is set to YES, the tiles will not be stretched, but rather the game view will be centralized, surrounded by black space.  Tiles that are too large will always be compressed rather than running off the screen.

[BLACK_SPACE:YES]

Graphics info, most of it as above.  Set GRAPHICS to YES to turn it all on.  This will use the "raw/graphics" folder for tile information.  Currently this is limited to whatever creature graphics you have downloaded.  The game comes with a few pictures to demonstrate.  As of July 2010, the Dwarf Fortress Wiki has graphical tilesets available at http://www.dwarffortresswiki.net/index.php/List_of_user_graphics_sets.

I did run the save game updater but I haven't looked at the text files yet.The last time I tried to modify the tilesize that way I didn't really know what I was doing. Does Mayday have settings reccomended for more detail? . I'd like to be able to see this much detail in each of the tiles:

this is about as far as I can zoom in currently:

The tileset doesn't appear to be complete, either.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Do you mean that Mayday is semi-incompatible with the current version of the game? Should I just switch back to using Phoebus ?
