Prison camps
« on: August 11, 2010, 09:53:58 am »

Hay all.
Just got an idea an I am wondering if anyone has had any experance with such a thing:
Work camps for criminals.

I know that when chained up a dorf can move into adjacent tiled from the chain, does this mean they can use querns or mill stones if the material needed are put within reach?

Any other ideas?

A gremlin in a control room for a labyrinth filled with levers.

Or a monkey.

MOJOJOJO!

I can see it now, an evil monkey screaming into the labyrinth.

"DAMN YOU POWERPUFF GOBS!"

All I've seen are prisoners destroying close-by buildings (assuming they tantrumed before they got there)

I don't think either activate levers...

Hmm, I suppose transgressers can be locked into a pit where they must make stone blocks until they die of hunder/thirst...

You want to know how to make a prison camp? What did you think your fortress was?

You know, it does make a lot more sense to think of your Fortresses as Gulags rather than homes. What sane Dwarf would ever travel though the scorching wilderness just to inhabit a Fortress built on a terrifying ocean?

"Come visit wonderful Townbrush! You can spend your days laboring in the scorching heat whilst Ogres glare at you from across the trench. Rest easy knowing that our defense are nonexistent and a Forgotten Beast could wipe out the Fortress at any moment!"

What sane Dwarf...

This makes the HUGE assumption that dwarves are sane to begin with, by human standards anyways.

I've heard of a few people making prisons fortresses where the occupants are not chained but kept in a cell with workshops, and the administrators must activate and deactivate dumping zones for giving them food and raw materials for work.  Seems overly elaborate though, and much easier to do with burrows.

While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.

I always go by the assumption that my dwarves are criminally insane, and as such, while the group name is randomfied until we find one that suits them, the fortress name is always 'Headwound, the eternal fire of insanity.'  I forget the dwarven version, but that's not really necessary, now is it?

If you accidentally lock the elves in the depot and wait until they're insane to capture them in cages and then lock the next group of elves in the depot and unleash the insane elves from their cages, that's still somehow your fault.

Kobold_young: Look at all these traps! Stupid dwarves think they can keep us out!
Kobold_veteran: No, little one... The traps all point inwards.

At that point, a four-foot dwarf with a six-foot spike stuck in his [upper body] appeared. On his head were what appeared to be remnants of a steel cage. Quietly the dwarf muttered; "...must have body parts.."

This topic made me laugh quite a bit. Or at least snicker. Anyways, a few community forts have been suggested on this theme. Makes me want to start one. Will report back with SCIENCE, if I feel like it,
