Soldier (cannot follow order)
« on: August 09, 2010, 12:22:47 pm »

I want my soldiers to train, but they say they cannot follow order instead. Why is this? Sometimes they are training properly, other times they don't.

Can they get to the training barracks?

I had this exact same problem saturday.  It was because I had locked my surviving soldiers out of the fort via flooded entrance, so they couldn't reach the barracks.

I got this when there wasnt enough archery targets and ammo for my crossbowmen.

The barracks was reachable for sure. I had one barracks, and they were melee soldiers. The marksdwarves suck, because they don't seem to reload their bolts, and use their training bolts even in battle.

Not that it matters now, some goblins killed all soldiers. I sent my miners after them, and they killed 2 of the 4 miners, then ran away. Now I don't have anyone who could fight.

I'm having this problem too. Training soldiers is extremly slow. They do it from time to time but sometimes they just stop like that.
Also they sometimes run to drop all their equipment just to pick it up directly after. extremly annoying..

btw, what does "Equip" mean in the barracks/armory/archery room interface? ( a 'Q' appears near the 'T' next to the squad name) There's also the Sleep and Individual thingy. maybe this has to do with them storing and reaquiring their gear?

I think the dwarves can only pick up ammo when it's not in a stockpile (a bug ofc), but they still don't seem to do it 100% of the time. I'm now trying to train them at my goblin death-pit (cage traps ftw :P) cause i belive they get more xp from moving targets =)

I think if the ammo is in a bin, then the dwarves wont pick it up.  I just lay a huge ammo stockpile and set the available bins to zero.  They don't have a problem restocking.  As far as archery targets go, I've had luck setting up 4-5 targets and then one or two will be in use occasionally.  However, live training does seem more effective.
