I'm pretty sure, since a unit has an AoE. If you sent a barrage of units with a lot of supplies you'd establish territory there automatically, then you could build a supply dock and industry from there, branch out, etc. I havn't actually tried it but I"m pretty sure it's possible.

From what I've read, hexes owned by the United Nations can not be seized.

The UN owns the South Pole.

I tried playing this game, but I get pissed every time I offer the AI reasonable trading offers and they reject it. And then they try to extort me for resources I already have.

It depends on your diplomatic status with them. With ultra friendly nations that are in dire need for one resource or another, you can make fortunes.

Recently got this, it's rather awesome. Though I am having a problem with days sometimes lasting 3 minutes on fastest speed setting (even though there's no difference between fastest and normal). Probably because of the huge Asia war
