Hunted by Demons?

Something frightening just happened to me.

I was playing around with a high level adventurer, searching for a minotaur (had to go through the usual caverns) when I hit an expansive cavern underground. Pissed off, I decided to keep searching for the damned thing in the caverns for a good 20 minutes. When that proved futile, I began to make my trek back to the surface (it's that village's fault for embarking next to a Terrifying biome forest.)

Something was wrong.

I began to find bodies strewn about where I previously was, a troglodyte head here, a mutilated bonobo corpse there. Then it got crazier; I found the body of an elephant, it's legs apparently ripped off. These weren't caused by me (the place was totally empty when I came in.) I tried to get the hell out of there when I was confronted with a purple &. Apparently, a Demon of Amethyst was following me and was just biding it's time to strike. I began to fight it, but was slowly losing when it eventually ripped off my shield hand before I managed to strike it down.

Can someone explain to me what that Amethyst demon was doing there? Not only was there only one entrance to the cavern, but it became apparent that the demon DIDN'T come from the expansive cavern I was exploring, but rather entered the cavern from the surrounding world map.

It was hunting me.

It was attempting to prevent another Obok Meatgod from ever rising.

That's right.  The demons are so afraid of dwarves that they're hunting them all down one by one.  Why?

Now they HAVE a defined home.  If 'ere an Obok ever found his way to Hell, they're afraid they'd lose.

The adventurer is a human named Mel Sweetwater (random name generator.) Could it have something to do with me attacking a bunch of goblin Dark Towers? I know they are ruled by demons...
